The Manhigut Toranit program at Eretz Hemdah, was established in 2012. It was born out of a realization that there is a clear lacking of serious Talmidei Chachamim and Rabbinic leadership for Religious Zionist communities in the Diaspora, and there are no post-Smicha programs producing such graduates to fill this void.
There are many communities worldwide that have grown tremendously over the last two decades, in their level of Torah and Mitzvot and seek a meaningful connection to Israel and Zionism. They are seeking well rounded Talmidei Chachamim that will deepen their connection to Israel and the Jewish people.
However there are very few post Smicha programs in the Religious Zionist world, and of those, few if any participants are suitable and prepared to go on shlichut to Chutz Laaretz.
A full time five year post Smicha program is almost completely unique, nurturing serious Talmidei chachamim on the one hand, but no less important, giving them necessary tools and skills to be able to deal with the many challenges, that the Jewish community are dealing with, on an individual, communal and national level. We firmly believe that this program could solve the problem and frustration of many communities around the world.
The ethos of the program is based on, nurturing Talmidei chachamim that have a sense of responsibility for Am Yisrael, be they in Israel or abroad, in Chutz laaretz ; a sense of Mesirut Nefesh to be with the nation, and yet uplift them and strengthen their bond to Avinu shebashamyim.
As Moshe Rabeinu asked Hashem : “A leader for the community. One who will go before them and return in front of them”. A leader who on the one hand is not swept away or influenced by popular whims of the time. But on the other hand, is sensitive to the needs of the generation; a leader who views himself as a servant of a holy nation.
